Travis Kelce is looking forward to President Trump's attendance at the 2025 Super Bowl game — despite the president publicly slamming Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift, months ago.
On Wednesday, January 5, the 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end expressed his excitement that President Trump would attend Super Bowl LIX.
"That's awesome. It's a great honor, I think you know, no matter who the president is, I know I'm excited because it's the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there — it's the best country in the world — and that's pretty cool," Kelce gushed at the press conference as seen in a TikTok video posted by People.
Trump has made multiple comments slamming Swift, which began after the 35-year-old pop star endorsed Trump's political opponent, Kamala Harris, for president in September. In her post, the "Fortnight" hitmaker mentioned how the 78-year-old's campaign's use of artificial intelligence-generated images of her endorsing the former president in August was one of the reasons why she decided to share who she was casting her ballot for.
There is an intense dissonance between Kelce’s comments and watching Swift’s longtime best friend Selena Gomez weep on Instagram last week about the recent flood of ICE raids. “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” she said. The White House then fired back at Gomez, using her video to create anti-immigrant propaganda stereotyping undocumented immigrants as violent. There’s an intense dissonance between Kelce’s milquetoast implicit support and Taylor Swift’s 2020 comments calling Donald Trump out for “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism.” (Not to mention her endorsement of Kamala Harris for POTUS.)
Ultimately, if Kelce doesn’t support Trump, he should have prepared a better answer to a question anyone could have seen coming from a mile away. He has no small amount of power, as a key player in a major football franchise and as one-half of one of the most discussed couples in the world. He could have said anything else. He could have rolled his eyes a little, at the very least.
